What is Abdominal Acupuncture?

Abdominal Acupuncture was developed in China over the last two decades and is becoming increasingly popular throughout the world. It is acupuncture performed on the stomach. The founder of this new system came across a patient with a severe case of low back pain and Sciatica. Both Western and traditional Chinese techniques failed to ease the pain encountered by the patient. A new technique was in the making, needles were inserted into the acupoints on the stomach which was related to the patient’s spinal region. Within a few minutes of needle application, the pain had disappeared. Similar results were found using the same approach with other patients.

This urged the founder to dedicate his time and efforts to the research and development of Abdominal Acupuncture, unearthing the mystery of this new medical breakthrough. The theory behind this form of acupuncture is similar to those mild needling system theories such as Auricular (ear) Acupuncture. Auricular Acupuncture theory states that there are over 90 frequently used points on each ear which is related to specific parts of the body. This new Abdominal Acupuncture system works on the same theory, the abdomen and navel area also possess acupoints related to the whole body. We need only stimulate specific acupoints (points on the meridian) on the abdomen, and this will in turn reflect upon the problem area, in many cases providing immediate relief to the patient. This technique unlike other mild needling techniques uses the traditional meridian system framework, and possesses the same traditional meridian healing abilities. Treatment aims to adjust, harmonize and re-balance the body and mind. By promoting Qi – the increase in energy flow and blood flow enables the body to expel any pathogenic factors. By concentrating acupuncture therapy in the abdominal and navel region, all parts of the body can be treated because energy flows of the whole body are focused in this area. The technique has been found to be particularly powerful in treating chronic or long-term diseases and problems of the major internal organs, as well as joint problems and muscle pain.

Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanjing

The city of Nanjing is renowned for cultivating some of the best traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Practitioners in China.  Being the birthplace of the earliest academics of TCM, it provides a crucial base for breaking down and transforming the traditional pattern of “master-to-disciple” TCM education to the current class lectures and teaching.
