New acupuncture treatment on offer

icUxbridge, Wednesday 26 November 2003

A revolutionary advance in acupuncture is offered, by one of the pioneers of the new technique, at 8AM Healthcare in Northwood Hills.  8AM Healthcare opened in October at Joel Street offering Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including acupuncture and massage acupressure, with Chinese herbal therapy.

The revolutionary new technique is Abdominal Acupuncture, practised at 8AM Healthcare by Mrs Yi Xiang, who is a highly qualified doctor in China, holding numerous senior medical positions including Professor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Nanjing University, Director of the Acupuncture Department at Nanjing Municipal Hospital, Chairman of the Nanjing Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association and Teaching Professor at Beijing Abdominal Acupuncture Training Centre.

Her Speciality, Abdominal Acupuncture, has been developed in China only in the last 20 years and 8AM Healthcare is one of the first centres in Britain to offer it.  Director, Mr Hon Shan Tang is delighted to welcome her to Northwood hills and offer her considerable experience and skill to patients with a very wide range of ailments.

A strength of Traditional Chinese Medicine is its focus on the whole body, not just the apparent symptoms of illness or injury.  Your appointment will include a physical examination, feeling several pulses at each wrist and observing the colour and other characteristics of your face, tongue and body.  The information is considered in the context of a detailed history including present and past symptoms, injuries and illnesses, work, lifestyle, physical environment, family health history and emotional life.

Treatment aims to adjust, harmonise and re-balance the body and mind, using acupuncture specifically to adjust imbalances, promote Qi-energy flow and blood flow and expel pathogenic factors. By concentrating acupuncture therapy in the abdominal and navel region, all parts of the body can be treated because the nervous systems and energy flows of the whole body are focused in this area.  The technique has been found to be particularly powerful in treating chronic or long-term disease and problems of the major internal organs, as well as joint problems and muscle pain.  The process of treatment is relaxing and comfortable, reducing or avoiding even the minor pain and soreness sometimes experienced with traditional acupuncture.

Menopause-related disorders and weight problems, particularly overweight, can be made to respond very well.  Patients also find TCM effective in addressing a wide range of other problems including skin disorders and age-related beauty problems, diabetes, spinal related ailments, pain, stress and anxiety, overcoming habits and addictions, men's and women's health issues.
